These days where the cost of fuel has gone through the roof over the
past couple of years,
it is a good idea to find ways on how you can reduce fuel consumption
with your RV.
If not maintained and driven properly, recreational vehicles can
consume and waste a lot of fuel.
Whether you own a diesel pusher or propane fueled RV, you can be sure
that learning how to
improve fuel consumption is something that we can all benefit from.
Here are some fuel savings tips for you to consider.
-
Clean your air filter. Dirty air filters can cause the vehicle to
burn too much gas.
Maintaining a clean air filter or changing your air filter can
improve gas mileage by as much as 8 - 10%
-
Check you fuel filter and replace once a season if possible. The
fuel from some service stations
can be "dirty" and may affect performance of your motor home or
recreational vehicle.
A clean or new fuel filter can prevent you from being stranded on
the side of the road
-
Be sure that your tires are properly inflated and are not under
inflated
-
Maintain spark plugs. Dirty spark plugs can cause misfiring which
wastes fuel.
Check spark plugs and replace regularly
-
Improve driving techniques, don't speed, try to maintain your
speeds,
try not to idle for extended periods of time
-
Check your vehicle gas cap. Older gas caps may not be as tight as
they should be
allowing gas to evaporate and be wasted
-
Have your recreational vehicle serviced regularly to ensure that it
is in prime operating condition
